2010-2012 | Early Days

I was about four or five years old when I started to play Poptropica. We were at the library, when I saw my sister playing a game on the computer. I asked her about what she was playing and she responded, “You are a baby! That tiny brain of yours can’t do anything!” Those words stung like bees.

However, when I went home that day, I decided to start a Poptropica account. My first account was called Messy Speck. I like that name because, it was so…. me. When my sister saw me playing Poptropica, she suddenly wanted to help me. She showed me what the icons meant, how to make friends, and more. Back then, I did not know how to beat a single island! I needed help, and fast. But it wasn’t until a couple of years that I figured that out.

2013-2014 | Poptropica Help Blog and Being Too Busy

I was searching one day for a website to help me beat the islands. Then, I saw my sister looking at a walkthrough. I always studied it when she was at the computer, then I found its name, Poptropica Help Blog. I immediately looked it up and clicked on it.

It gave me so much information! I would spend days on the computer, reading its tips and tricks. I was in love! Now, I used it all the time when I wanted to do something on Poptropica.

The following year, in 2014, I was super busy, so I only played on the weekends. Besides, I figured, Poptropica will never disappear… right? I was on and off Poptropica a lot, also playing other games my friends played.

Plus, my computer had a lot of viruses. Eventually, I had lost interest in Poptropica, so I quit playing.

2015 | A New Account

In 2015, I got a new account, Cool Star. My interest in Poptropica renewed, but I did not use an account to play much. Instead, I read the PHB a lot. I could not comment on the stories and posts I saw, because I did not have an email account. (Editor’s note: You can comment on the PHB without an email address – just enter a fake one!)

So, I wrote what I wanted to say on the PHB in my own journal. Because of this, I fell in love with writing. I loved the way you could express your feelings anonymously!

Pretty soon, I had three journals full of my feelings. Writing did not just become a hobby, but a passion. I wrote fiction and nonfiction articles about anything! I became addicted to writing!

At some point, I stopped playing Poptropica again. My other friends were playing new games, so I did too. I thought I’d quit Poptropica forever. I became busy with other things, so Poptropica was the least of my worries.

But I was still writing. A lot.

2016 | A New Way

In 2016, I actually found time for Poptropica. I had gotten an email account, and so, it was commenting time on the PHB!! I actually did not comment a lot – but I kept writing in my journal.

I’m now in fifth grade. And I love playing Poptropica! My username is TealWings, and my name on Poptropica is Calm Star. But I am not calm!!! I have beaten 20 islands, but not on the same account.

Also, you might see me in the common rooms! I love how you can’t say mean things on Poptropica. Why do you have to be mean to someone?

Anyway, without Poptropica, I would not have realized my passion for writing! Ok, that was awkward. Did I come on too strong? Let us keep going. I also want to say that, thanks to the PHB’s Avatar Studio Gift, I have a lot of cool costumes. Well, that’s all for now… PEACE OUT!

• Ultimate iPad Expert •

(Hey Poptropicans! This is a guest post written by TallMelonisCool, a Poptropica player in the community. In this post he’ll be sharing some tips for the game of Pathwise. Enjoy! –)

My favorite common room game on Poptropica is Pathwise. It’s the one I’m best at, and I have some tips to share, so I thought I’d make a guest post about it. Here we go!

Tip #1: Start in the middle of the playfield.

People say that starting on your end in Pathwise makes it easier to get across to the other end.

But actually, starting right in the middle makes it easier to block the other person if they start at their end of the playfield, giving you an advantage.

Tip #2: Leave gaps in between each move.

Move in a way where you place a tile in the middle, then place your next tile not next to your first tile, but leave gaps, like you see in the picture.

Once you get all your tiles placed like this from one end to another, it is much harder for the other player to block you. Even if they block one of the two spaces that you left in the gap, there is still more space for you to form your path!

Looking at the board above, at this point, it’s like I’ve already won!

Tip #3: When trying to block the other player, do not place your tile too close to other player’s path. Instead, build a wall.

A mistake that players make is that, when they try to block their opponent, they mostly place their tile right next to the opponent’s path. Most of the time, if the opponent is smart, they will move around that and avoid the block. But it is a lot better if you place your tile as far away as you can because you can start making a wall to block your opponent.

Hello, everyone!

Lucky Joker here, sharing with you, an amazing Moana ad and Home Island makeover!

As many of you have noticed, Home Island has been altered to fit the theme for the upcoming Disney movie, Moana. It sort of resembles the island that Moana lives on in the movie.

In celebration of this upcoming film, there is also an advertisement to go along with this transformation.

In the ad, you can play a really cool game that involves you Wayfinding on a raft in the ocean, which is what Moana and Maui do in the film if you’ve seen the trailer.

Your goal is to make it all the way to the finish line without hitting any of the obstacles, which include: rocks, seaweed, and even whirlpools, so watch out!

You have five lives, which are represented by five sailboats at the top of your game screen. The bar to the left tells you how far you’ve made it toward your destination. Once it’s completely green, you’ve finished. That and the finish line will be in hindsight.

Upon completion of the game, you will receive some cool prizes! These prizes are Water Power and Hei Hei Hat, and here they are!

Wait! There’s more to be done. This ad offers another fun game to earn another pair of awesome prizes!

The second game is a timed search. You’re required to find all of the parts to Moana’s boat in two minutes. It’s fairly simple as there are only four parts needed to be found. Just work your way up to the top of the Kakamora ship to find them.

Once all the parts have been found, you’ll receive Pua Follower and Water Burst.

The film premiers in theaters starting the 23rd of November in the US. Do you plan on seeing it? I think I’ll give it a try! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this ad and the prizes it has to offer. POP on!

2011 – 2013 | Poptropica Videos and Starting an Account

Back in 2011, I followed a really popular YouTuber who went by the name of Insiders Network. He was a gameplay commentator who would upload videos about Club Penguin, Webkinz, and Poptropica. I really loved his Poptropica videos, and they made me want to play as well.

So I created my first account, gregoryben10. I became hooked to the game, completing every island, day after night. It’s hard for me to recall the exact details, but I do remember that I had a hard time beating Skullduggery Island, so I quit for a couple of months.

In 2013, I thought of the game again and wanted to revisit it. So I grabbed my mom’s computer, and started typing in Poptropica’s web address in again. I tried to log in to my gregoryben10 account, but it didn’t work! I tried every password I could think of, but to no avail.

I looked at Poptropica’s troubleshooting page and it said that the account went poof if you left it dormant for 6+ months. (This is actually not true, but I didn’t know how to get my account back.) Anyway, I was pretty mad about that. Two years’ worth of play time on that account! I didn’t want to play Poptropica after that, but found myself doing it anyway.

2014 – 2015 | Hello, Calm Flipper!

In early 2014, I created a new account called gregoryben2, which is my current account. I looked back at Insiders Network on YouTube to find out that the same guy now went by the alias of Thinknoodles.

I soon wanted to buy Poptropica membership, and my mom let me! So I hopped on my new account, and played my first island on it, which was Ghost Story Island.

I played through most of the islands during this time, but something caught my interest. There was a fan website dedicated to Poptropica, which I thought would really help me get through some islands that I was stuck on. It was called the PHB. I scurried through the islands after that (with some left unfinished), and through browsing the PHB, I became an avid Poptropica fan (I was also a fan of Club Penguin at this time).

2016 – present | It’s Me Again!

I played through all of the new SUI islands, which I neglected back then because they were pretty laggy overall. After that I got pretty bored – that is, until I found the PHB Discord chat (the PHC), which I gladly joined, officially joining the Poptropica fan community!

I got a lot better with gaming in 2015, so I used my new skill to beat Skullduggery Island. Somehow I did it, beating the island which seemed so hard before. I beat the island which I had previously deemed impossible to beat. I looked down at my palms, (which were filled with sweat from a hard night’s worth of effort) and laughed. I laughed with glee, and joy, and all of those great emotions. I was happy.

Hey guys, my name is Brave Tomato, and welcome to a quick little post of mine!

So it’s November. For those of you who live in the Northern Hemisphere, the air is crisp and the leaves are at their peak of their sunset coloring. The air’s getting colder, certain fashions and lattes are back in season, and it is a calm before the winter that’s slowly emerging.

So what is it a perfect time for? Going out to the park and enjoying the scenery? No, according to Poptropica, it’s the perfect time… for the beach!

Well, there are places in the world where it is fine time for the beach, whether it would be because it is mid-to-late spring for those in the Southern Hemisphere or if you live near the equator. In honor of these summer wishes, the Creators have released a new set of Store items!

BIG news today – Poptropica is holding another art contest!

This one is quite different from the last few held – the #MyPoptropicaCostume contest asks you to design your dream costume. If it wins, you’ll get a 6 month membership and it will be made into a real Poptropica costume and sold in the store, as well as being worn by an NPC on Home Island! How cool is that?

Of course, there are some guidelines, listed below:

• You can use our template (find it here) to draw your outfit. Or draw your Poptropican’s outfit freehand (here’s a guide). Or draw your creation using your computer or tablet. Whatever you want!
• Use your imagination! Get inspired by your favorite movies or TV shows and put your own original twist on them. Or think about your favorite activities, sports, and hobbies, and base a costume around one of them. Check out your favorite magazines and take a cue from the latest trends. The sky’s the limit!
• Don’t forget about fun accessories and powers that your costume could have!
  When you design your costume, be sure it could be reproducable as a Poptropica Costume. Teeny tiny details would be hard to recreate for a store costume.
• Give your costume a name and put your Poptropican’s name on it, and if you want, your age. Do not include your last name or where you live. For example, your entry could say something like “Winter Fun Outfit by Happy Catfish, age 14.”

Like the last few contests, you have to submit your creations through a social media account with the tag #MyPoptropicaCostume. If you don’t have a social media account, fret not – we at the PHB would be more than happy to post it for you! Of course, to make sure we don’t accidentally spam the creators, see if any of your friends can post it for you first.

The contest ends on December 31st with the winner announced in January. That means we have about a month and a half to make some fabulous costumes – get drawing!

The creators leave us with two costumes created by Perfect Sky as inspiration, if needed.

Speaking of Skinny Moon, earlier today, she popped into the PHC for a quick chat with those who were around! It started around 4pm Eastern time and she started with a “Hi everyone!” and “What’s going on with you guys? USA Poptropicans getting excited for Thanksgiving break?”

Some people shared their plans for the holiday, to which she responded, “Yay for vacation!!!” Here are a few more fun Q&As that occurred:

idk: Do the Poptropica creators get time off for Thanksgiving/Christmas? There are some jobs that don’t allow it. (Well, unless they gather vacation time earned from working.)
Skinny Moon: We do! Lots of people take extra days off, too. I am taking the whole week off!

idk: It was said somewhere in a Creator’s blog post that the New Poptropica would release “by the end of this year”. Is that still going to happen?
Skinny Moon: I can’t get into specifics, sorry! I really wish I could!

(Hmm… looks like the Creators are no longer positive that New Poptropica will be ready by the time originally planned. Hopefully the wait won’t be too long…)

idk: In your opinion, who is the meme king/queen?
Skinny Moon: Oh, jeez, I don’t know!

Skinny Moon: I realllllly need to go grocery shopping so I had boring leftovers from dinner last night.

But the main point of her visit came in the form of an idea she proposed: “So here’s a question. If I launched a contest where you had to record your gameplay in Poptropica (for like 10 seconds), would you do it? Would you know how to do it?” adding, “If you have a Mac you can use Quicktime.” People gave mixed responses, but personally, I think it’s a creative idea to integrate into a contest!

She also asked, “Are you all going to enter the #MyPoptropicaCostume contest?” – implying that yes, you should! You can find out more details about the contest in this post.

Skinny Moon stayed for about 20 minutes, wrapping up with, “Okay, I have to run. Have a great rest of the day everyone!” So, everyone, if you like chatting with Poptropicans and getting surprise visits from a Creator, you should definitely join the PHC!

Hoi yo peeps, wassup – it is the savvy Shavy here with my own ‘My Place in Poptropica’! Before we get started, if you want add me on Poptropica, my username is shavone101 – and with that, let’s begin!

2010 | my initial apprehension

In the year 2010, it seemed that everyone was into Poptropica – I heard it talked about a lot. I had never seen anyone play it, but for some reason I assumed it was something lame that only the nerds played.

Anyway, I became friends with a kid named Calvin. He was a good friend, but sadly, now he doesn’t even remember me (I wish he did!). In second grade, I went over to his house and watched him play Animal Jam on his computer, and then, of course, Poptropica. My first thought was, oh brother.

Calvin told me that Poptropica was made by Jeff Kinney, and to be honest, I’m not a fan of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, so that made me even more apprehensive. However, I gave it a shot…

…and I loved it! Soon, I was playing it like mad both at school and at home. I just kept making new characters, since I thought all you could do was walk around the islands doing nothing (of course, I was wrong).

Since I wasn’t doing much, I soon lost interest, which I now deeply regret. Fortunately, I returned six years later…

2016 | back again, with orange flipper

Earlier this year – April 21, 2016 to be exact – I fell sick. Like, super sick, the vomiting kind.

Since I couldn’t do much, I started browsing the Internet. Poptropica was just a tiny speck in my mind, but somehow it found its way to the surface of my thoughts, so I gave it a go. It took me a while to remember the name, but then it flashed in my mind: Poptropica!

I clicked ‘Create new character’ on Poptropica, and out came my new best friend: Orange Flipper. There was now a tutorial – Monkey Wrench Island – to show me that there was more to the game than walking around. I soon beat the island, and moved on to another one – Shrink Ray.

However, that one was super hard, so I looked up a walkthrough… and that’s when I found the PHB. Thanks to this site, I beat Shrink Ray and a bunch of other islands. I’ve got to say, my favorite island is Survival.

I loved this Poptropica Help Blog so much that I finally made a WordPress account and joined the fan community. Now, you may see me often in the PHB comments and on the PHC on Discord. Like many others, I’m still hoping to one day be a PHB author. I am very familiar with the community and I am happy that I found Poptropica again. By the way, I might even make a Poptropica blog with some people (I don’t think I could do it alone ).

I would like to thank UiPE (Ultimate iPad Expert), Giant Raptor, Giant Hawk, Cuddly Brain, Tall Cactus, Happy Lobster, Perfect Sky, Short Feather, Magic Flipper and Small Carrot: you all have made a big, positive difference in my life, so thank you.

Hi everyone, Slip here!

Poptropica recently announced the Islands of the Month for November: Shrink Ray and Poptropolis Games! As with previous IotMs, the chosen islands will give 500 credits for finishing it the first time and 300 credits for repeat finishers.

Not only will extra credits be given away in honor of these islands, but also new walkthrough videos from Captain Crawfish, exclusive costumes returning in the Poptropica Store and never-before-seen behind the scenes of the islands!

Right now, Shrink Ray’s exclusive members-only costumes, the Milk Box and Bottle Cap Costumes, are back in the Store for a limited time.

Poptropica has also released some behind-the-scenes concept art from Shrink Ray Island! Most of these were ideas that never made it into the island. They involve plastic bag parachutes, a ruler-and-crayon lever, and some dust bunnies! Click on the pictures in the gallery below to view them up-close.

We can’t wait to see more concept art and scrapped ideas from the next IOTMs! It’s really cool to see how the Creators put all their ideas together just to make an island. Poptropica used to post some on Twitter – hopefully they bring that back.

Gather around the table, Poptropicans… because you are all cordially invited to the PHB’s Thanksgiving Party of 2016! With apologies for the short notice, we still hope many of you are able to make it, as it will take place Wednesday afternoon (the day before Thanksgiving, as the day and weekend itself will probably be busy for a lot of people). Here are the details to know:

• 🤓 WHO: Everyone! Whether you celebrate Turkey Day in real life or not, come! Even the Canadians – we know you guys like to do Thanksgiving in October, but hey, that’s cool too.
•  WHAT: Partying and playing games in Multiverse rooms on Poptropica, and chatting on the PHC with friends, including some PHB staff! If it’s your first time, you’ll meet lots of cool people!

Hello, everyone! What are you thankful for?

Yesterday, the PHB announced the 2016 Thanksgiving Party to give thanks to the amazing Poptropica community (whether you celebrate Turkey Day or not)! Despite the short notice, we’re thankful that a number of Poptropicans were able to attend! Check out the recap collage above – and thanks to Pea Sea (Purple Claw) for helping out with pictures!

The party took place in a few Multiverse rooms on Poptropica as well as the Poptropica Help Chat on Discord. It began at 3 pm EST (although some eager Poptropicans rallied up a few multiverse rooms a little earlier) and went on til about 5 pm EST. Within the duration of the party, we enjoyed a plethora of lagging in Multiverse rooms with the activation of store items like sneezing powder, popgum, fart guns and fireworks. Some rooms even crashed from all the activity!

A few PHB authors also made an appearance, and we enjoyed chatting, battling and seeing many of you come out and make this party another success! It was also nice to see a few festive Poptropicans dressed in foodie and autumnal attire as well. If you weren’t able to make it, that’s okay! The PHC is always open, so feel free to stop by anytime and make a few new friends: it’d be a pleasure to have you!

If you remember, a little over a week ago Poptropica released some all-new store items. Not winter coats nor fall fashion, but beach gear and a couple of pet followers to fulfill our wishes for the summer season! (Although, that’s already covered if you live in the Southern Hemisphere. )

2012 | How I Found Poptropica

I discovered Poptropica from a girl in my class. Let me say we were not friends (in fact, we kind of hated each other). We always fought and competed. One day, she was bragging about beating an island on Poptropica. “What’s a Poptropica??” I thought.

I had to find out, and that is when I found the game. I made my first account and started playing all the islands. What started as a competition to beat that girl ended up being a new hobby I absolutely love.

2013 -2014 | Playing in Silence

For the next few years, I still loved Poptropica. But I did not know anyone who played it anymore, so I never talked about it. Playing Pop was something I did when I was bored, and in that time, it was no longer a big thing in my life anymore.

2015 | My Account is Gone!

In early 2015, I took a break from Poptropica. I was really busy and I just did not have time to play. In May of that year, when I tried to log onto my account again, it didn’t work! I tried to retype the username and password I always had so many times, and it still said incorrect password.

I was so mad that I rage-quit and left Poptropica… until a few months later. In September, I missed Poptropica. I decided to make a few accounts so I did not need to worry about losing one. I connected my accounts to my email so I could reset my passwords and prevent myself from rage-quitting again, lol.

Early 2016 | I’m a BIG FAN!

In 2016, I discovered the Poptropica community. I started to watch Poptropica videos on YouTube, and I read blogs too. That’s how I discovered the fandom within the community.

I have always been more of a “fan” type of person. What I mean by this is, for example, I don’t want to be a singer, but I like listening to other people’s music. I don’t want to be an actor, though I like watching movies.

I like being in fandoms, and I became very interested in all things Poptropica fans do, like making theories, fanart, and fanfiction. However, I hadn’t met anyone in the community yet, because I silently read blogs like the PHB without commenting, and I did not have a WordPress account (although that’s not required to comment on blogs).

Summer 2016 | Discord and Community

Just a few months ago, this summer, I noticed a link to the Poptropica Help Chat here on the PHB. I didn’t know what it was at the time, but I decided to join it. That is when I made my Discord account, and from there, my experience in the community only got better.

Soon after, the PHB held their Poppies event. I was really excited, and little did I know that I’d even get to meet Perfect Sky – a Poptropica YouTuber whose videos I’d become a huge fan of mere months before! I talked to her the day Poppies nominations started, and we became friends. Also on Discord, I met my favorite blogger, Tall Cactus, as well as the PHB authors!

In August, I was talking to my friend Bony Fox in a YouTube DM. We decided to start a blog together. Our blog is called The Poptropica Fandom, and our goal is to unite the fandom side of the Poptropica community. We have an art gallery that anyone can contribute to, so please share your art to be featured! :)) Thanks for reading my story!

• Ultimate iPad Expert •

Why hello there everyone! SD here to bring you a cool video that idk put together for us. Yes, in fact idk has tracked down some footage of the unreleased “Track & Find” game that has not been found before. *contains possible spoilers*

From the video we see that to play this game, you would need to find whatever character you’re given in a lineup. Carefully though, since you only get one chance per character and the lineup always looks very similar. Get 5 points first and you win! Kind of like an odd game of Hide-and-Seek, don’t ya think? Obviously Track & Find was meant to be a battle option in common rooms, but it has yet to see the light of day.

The battle seems a tad slow, but still fun, so who knows? Maybe it will one day be available to everyone. Until then, check out some of idk’s other cool Pop videos on YouTube!
